Giovanni Antonio Canal, 1697-1768, was an Italian painter of landscapes of Venice. An Italian painter of great renown that made several city views of Venice, Canaletto also spent a lot of time doing imaginary views. Whether real or fake, Canaletto works went on to great fame thanks to his work in England. He spent almost a decade creating many London views, a bulk that went into the personal collection of King George III. Other Canaletto paintings that showed off his style were The Stonemason's Yard, The Bucintoro Returning to the Molo, The Entrance to the Grand Canal, Venice and The Doge's Palace, Venice. Canaletto is also one of the most esteemed students of Luca Carlevaris.
